One big problem with multiple USB headsets on OSX. If you are using identical USB headsets.with the same name., only one will show up in the sound panel. I believe this is a bug, because past OSX versions allowed me to see multiple USB headsets with the same name. However in 10.5.8 and in Snow Leopard, multiple headsets with the same device name no longer appear.
It's a real pain for me, because I can only use one of my favorite headset on my Mac. I hope Apple will fix this bug, but otherwise you will need USB headsets that are different models.

We all know that on the Macs under BootCamp will only play sound out of the built-in speakers. I don't know if anyone has gotten the iMac's built in microphone to work but, I guess that's another problem. I play games a lot on my iMac now and I was thinking of a USB headset like It says it works with Windows XP and Mac OS X, it's USB so it shouldn't have a problem with the audio right? I mean currently in BootCamp under Windows XP if you plug in headphones on the headphone port the sound is still played out of the regular speakers and the headphones, you can't just tell the speakers to mute without using third-party drivers which may or may not work (I haven't tried or searched fro them). So my guess is since the headset is USB that it should work fine because it's not touching the built-in audio jacks.I'm just throwing around ideas here.maybe somebody with a USB headset and BootCamp can test it out before I shell out $50 for a USB headset? Any help would be great! I think I have an old Griffin iMic around here, that should work with Windows.I wonder if using that will prevent sound coming out of the built-in speakers.now I gotta find it Thanks.
Click to expand.I assume Win side means you're referring to Bootcamp and not Parallels? In Bootcamp check the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties, set the USB Headset as Default for playback and recording. Also click the checkbox at the bottom to 'Use only default devices'. A reboot might be in order at this point. Some applications also come with preference settings that will let you choose whether to recieve the sound through the built in speakers or the headset.
As a long time user of Windows user I think this is more of a USB problem in Windows itself, as I've run across this problem with other devices as well. I think Windows just gets mixed up sometimes about whats attached to it and where. If all else fails, I suggest you unplug every usb device you have, reboot windows, then replugging each in, one by one, letting Windows redetect each device before proceeding to the next. Let us know how it goes, best of luck.
